Director of Design

I&CO, a business invention firm in New York, is looking for a full-time Director of Design to join our team and grow with us.

You Are

  • A proven leader with experience building and managing a design group
  • An experienced, strategic thinker/maker who has led complex, national and international client businesses
  • Passionate about working with clients to deliver transformative work that impacts their business
  • A skilled graphic, brand or digital designer has designed beautiful brands, communication design materials and/or interfaces
  • A driven and self-motivated leader who is constantly looking for ways to improve and inspire not only the work but also our company environment
  • A good listener who understands the role of design in business and cares about the quality of the output as well as the thoughtfulness of our service

You Will

  • Lead, manage and mentor a department of brand, experience and/or service designers and writers of I&CO to be the best it could be that creates compelling ideas and develop them into best-in-class design solutions
  • Partner with I&CO leadership and senior clients to help shape the strategy and envision the future of their business as shaped by new customer experiences
  • Manage and prioritize multiple work streams and assign appropriate talent to ongoing and upcoming projects
  • Help refine and redefine the I&CO creative process that can be repeated and possibly branded as our own methodology
  • Proactively recruit and build the department to be one of the best in town
  • Help with our new business effort and actively bring new opportunities for I&CO
  • Help elevate the design output of I&CO in the US

You Have

  • 12+ years of work experience as a designer working in an agency, consultancy, or in-house environment or relevant industry
  • Experience delivering across multiple projects for Fortune 500 clients as well as startups
  • A strong portfolio with examples of branding, experience, service or interface designs
  • Proficiency with Adobe Creative Suite, Sketch, InVision and other common design tools
  • Excellent design standards and attention to detail
  • Experience working closely with engineers on technical projects
  • Degree in design, HCI, CS or a related field or equivalent practical experience
